Musings, comments, and bad puns from Marty Szabo and Alan Strickland as they head for Gloucestershire in the UK, to walk the Cotswold Way. Starting in Chipping Campden, they should finish in Bath 9 days and 102 miles later. Or, a nice short description of this walk might be... Sexagenarians in the Way!!!

Chipping Campden to Broadway
Chipping Campden is one of the most picturesque villages in the Cotswolds. Pat and I stayed here a couple of nights last year. Marty and I got into Chipping Campden around 1:00 today, after a train ride from London, and cab ride from Moreton in Marsh. Chipping Campden is all dolled up for the Jubilee, with British flags in windows of most houses, and flags all along the streets. The Campden celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee took place this afternoon, with what looked like most of the towns residents sharing a holiday luncheon (everyone brings their own), on tables lined up on High Street.
Marty and I dropped our bags at our B&B, checked out the activities on High Street, then as we planned, headed out for Broadway, six miles down the Cotswold Way. The Way led us out of town, then up Dover’s Hill, where the Cotswold Olimpicks had just been held this past weekend (more on that in a separate post). Then the Way led us several miles across fields and some woods until we got to Broadway Tower (also in a separate post). From Broadway Tower, it was a steep downhill into the village of Broadway.
If I’ve done it correctly, a map of today’s stretch of the Way is here
Broadway is another of the most picturesque and popular villages in the Cotswolds, and it was busy today. We spent a couple of hours just people (and dog) watching, then found a friendly local pub to warm up in. Yes, warm up. The weather today was partly cloudy but chilly - high in the upper 50’s. It’s looking like the rest of the week will be just as chilly, but getting pretty rainy as the week goes on.
We’re feeling pretty good that we got this stretch (6 miles) under our belts today. It shortens tomorrows walk to a more manageable 11 miles.
We arranged a taxi back to Chipping Campden, then went to the Eight Bells Inn (a 15th century inn) for a great meal and some successful experimentation with English Ales.

The map worked great Alan. We can follow your progress daily.
